Spring Silueta

Project type

Installation

Date

April 2024

Location

Lafayette, Louisiana

Spring Silueta is an environmental art installation inspired by Ana Mendieta’s exhibition Fundamento de Palo Monte: Ana Mendieta at the Hilliard Art Museum in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Kristicevich led a talk and collaborative community art event inspired by Mendieta’s work. Using locally gathered earthen material, Kristicevich sculpted a large ephemeral and interactive installation. The elements of earth, fire, and water are all symbolic and represent a sense of place and the cyclical nature of life.

Spring Silueta became a magical evening of community conversation and creation. The evening culminated with the lighting of 39 candles in honor of the years since Mendieta’s passing. Those in attendance lit the candles with the intention of silently releasing a burden. The sculpture transformed as the sun set and began to glow, signifying a new beginning.
